Five things you should be listening to this weekend (vol. 2)

It’s that time of the week again, the weekend is almost upon us. As it seemed to go down quite well last time, and it’s been another good week in the music world, I thought I’d do another rundown of some of my favourite tracks of the moment.

So without further ado, here are another five things you should be listening to this weekend.

Flying Lotus – Never Catch Me (Feat. Kendrick Lamar)

This week saw the release of Flying Lotus’ latest album, You’re Dead! as well as the video for Never Catch Me. I’ve always been a fan of both jazz and hip hop, so love how FlyLo manages to combine the two together to make something new. The album has a clear jazz vide running through it – but not your run of the mill, easy listening jazz, this is some crazy, jazz fusion type stuff. Quick beats, wild melodies and Kendrick’s signature flow – what a combination.

Chromeo – Old 45s

For those of you who have been following my blog for a while, you will know that I was gutted when Chromeo dropped out of Glastonbury this year. And to make things worse, they were replaced by Twin Atlantics – but I won’t start on that. Anyway, Chromeo recently released this video for Old 45s, and it’s amazing – dance offs, slow mo bar fights, HAIM, Napoleon Dynamite, it’s got the lot. I’ve yet to find a Chromeo song I can sit still to, and would definitely recommend getting your hands on White Women – I had the album stuck on repeat for a large chunk of my summer.

A$AP Rocky – Multiply (Feat. Juicy J)

A$AP Rocky dropped this video for his new single Multiply, featuring Juicy J, and it looks like it’s back to the old school A$AP, which I couldn’t be happier about. There were a few tracks on Long. Live. A$AP that I wasn’t a huge fan of, so it’s great to see him back to his top form (in my opinion).

Caribou – Our Love

We were treated to a new Caribou album this week – Our Love. If you were a fan of Swim, then this is a perfect progression. Pulsing, ethereal rhythms with minimalist vocals, I think Our Love will be a great chill-out, afterparty album.

Gorgon City – Ready For Your Love (Feat. MNEK)

Yet another new album was released this week, it’s been busy! This time it was the debut from Gorgon City, who will have been the soundtrack to many peoples’ summers. I could have posted any number of tracks from this record, with guest vocals from Katy B, Jennifer Hudson and Maverick Sabre, to name but a few. I decided to go for Ready For Your Love, however, as it reminds me of Notting Hill Carnival – everyone went absolutely wild when one of the DJs played this.

So there we have it, my musical recommendations for this weekend – I hope you enjoyed them.

See you on the other side.
