Five things you should be listening to this weekend (Vol. 5)

It’s Halloween today, and while I could try and somehow make this into some kind of “spooky” post, I’m not going to do that. What I am going to do, is give you another five things you should be listening to this weekend. So whether you’re going out to town, going to a party, or just staying at home, you’ll still have some tasty beats to see you through.

OK Go – I Won’t Let You Down

Let’s kick things off with the latest single from OK Go, kings of the elaborate music video. I Won’t Let You Down definitely doesn’t disappoint, with the band starting off on futuristic scooters, and ending in an insanely complex, synchronised umbrella dance number. But don’t think this is just a flashy video with nothing to back it up though, oh no. The track absolutely oozes disco funk, just listen to those synths.

Drake – How Bout Now

Drake dropped three new tracks on his blog this week, completely out of the blue – 6 God, Heat of the Moment, and How Bout Now. I’m guessing all three will be featuring on his upcoming album, Views From The 6, but who knows. We’re still waiting on a release date for the album, so this will have to do for now. How Bout Now samples the Jodeci track, My Heart Belongs To You, and reminds women everywhere to never leave Drake a voicemail, unless you want it ending up on a future song.

Years and Years – Breathe

Anybody who grew up around the same time as me will be fully aware of the Blu Cantrell and Sean Paul classic, Breathe. If you act like you didn’t love it, you’re just lying to yourself. Anyway, Years and Years have covered the track, choosing to miss out Sean Paul’s part and just focus on Blu Cantrell’s vocals. But I guess we can forgive them for not trying to lay down Sean Paul’s lyrics, not many people can pull that off.

Woody – Partition (Remix)

Woody has been around for a minute now, making a name for himself by turning well known hip hop and RnB tracks on their heads, with his unique brand of remix. His latest offering takes on Beyonce’s Partition, and is probably my favourite track from him since his Notorious B.I.G remix album.

Tom Misch – On My Mind

[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/170360663″]

I don’t know much about Tom Misch. According to his Facebook page he’s a 19 year old composer/guitarist/singer/violinist, so needless to say he’s pretty talented. I’m a big fan of On My Mind, with its smooth, chilled, hip hop beats making it feel like it’s a warm summer evening all over again – if only. It almost reminds me of Ghostpoet a little bit, which is no bad thing.

Bondax – Let Me Be (Feat. Bo Saris)

[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/174404087″]

Now I know this post is “five things you should be listening to”, and this is the 6th track, but it’s not a full track, so doesn’t really count. Bondax released this teaser for their upcoming single, Let Me Be, and I knew I just had to share it – it’d be a crime not to share something this funky with you all! This track will be part of the upcoming Bondax & Friends album, and brings in Bo Saris to lay down some vocals.

So there you have it, five and a half things you should be listening to this week.
