Five things you should be listening to this weekend (Vol. 8)

Bae, vaping and indyref were all added to the Oxford Dictionary this week, and Myleene Klass had a go at Ed Miliband because she wants to keep all her hard earned Hear’Say cash to herself. And what have I been doing while all of that has been going on, I hear you ask? Well, I’ve been scouring the web, finding the best tunes to share with all of you of course.

Unknown Mortal Orchestra – Sittin’ On The Dock Of The Bay

I’ve heard many bands and artists attempt to cover Otis Redding’s Sittin’ On The Dock Of The Bay over the years, but most have failed to impress me. With the song being such a classic, it is naturally difficult to do it justice, but I think Unknown Mortal Orchestra have nailed it. Recorded live on BBC Radio 6 last year, this version stays true to the original, while still allowing Unknown Mortal Orchestra to put their mark on it.

Jessie Ware – Keep On Lying (Preditah Remix)

As part of an ongoing collaboration, Red Bull recently launched Jessie Ware: Remixed. This project took Jessie Ware’s Keep On Lying and invited five different DJs to remix the track in five different Red Bull Studios around the world, all in the space of five days. Pional, Nina Kraviz, Harry Fraud and Tokimonsta all took part, but my favourite remix has to come from Birmingham based Preditah.

CVIRO & GXNXVS – Benjamins

Singer/producer duo CVIRO & GXNXVS dropped Benjamins this week, which has me on the edge of my seat for their upcoming EP. CVIRO channels some serious 90s RnB on the vocals, while GXNXVS lays down some simple keys and finger snaps to bring the track together.

Wu-Tang Clan – Necklace

With the release of their 20th anniversary, A Better Tomorrow, just around the corner, Wu-Tang Clan released another track this week. Necklace keep the beat simple, with nothing but the occasional old school movie sample to distract from each member’s turn on the mic.

Full Crate x Mar – Nobody Else

What better way to end this post than with some upbeat, soulful house from Amsterdam based duo Full Crate x Mar. If this banger doesn’t have you tapping your foot and nodding your head then there’s clearly something wrong with you.
