This week marks the 10th instalment of “Five things you should be listening to this weekend” and have I got a treat in store for you. With new music from Ghostface Killah, Frank Ocean, Andrew Block, Partynextdoor and Zak Abel, your weekend officially starts here.
Ghostface Killah – The Battlefield (Feat. Kool G Rap, AZ & Tre Williams)
Wu-Tang Clan released their new album this week, but I featured a song from that a few weeks ago, so today I thought I’d share the latest offering from Ghostface Killah’s upcoming album. Due out next week, 36 Seasons is a full length concept album, with Ghostface Killah playing a superhero on the hunt for revenge. You can stream the entire album over at NPR and if you’re a fan of Wu-Tang Clan, Ghostface Killah, or just good music in general, go and check it out.
(Shout out to Charlie for putting me on to the stream as well)
Frank Ocean – Memrise
When Frank Ocean released his debut album, Channel Orange, a couple of years ago, the music world fell completely in love with him. Since then though, we haven’t heard all that much from the singer. With little more than rumours of his new album to go off, people were understandly excited when out of the blue he dropped a new track on his Tumblr page last week. Memrise may not be a full song, but it was enough to get people chomping at the bit for more.
Andrew Block – All I Need (Feat. Ivan Neville)
Andrew Block is one of New Orlean’s most in demand session musicians, but recently decided to step out of the shadows and release his own debut album, You Can Only Go Up From Here. For All I Need, Andrew calls in help from Ivan Neville to create this funk/soul masterpiece.
PartyNextDoor – Don’t Worry (Feat. Ca$h Out)
PartyNextDoor dropped four new tracks on his Soundcloud page this week, completely out of the blue. Maybe he’s been taking notes from Drake, who did a similar thing a few weeks back. He also announced a worldwide tour for 2015 and made all four tracks available to download for free – how nice of him. If you like Drake, The Weeknd, Frank Ocean and so on, then this should be right up your street.
Zak Abel – These Are The Days
Zak Abel made a name for himself collaborating with club favourites Gorgon City, featuring on their hit track Unmissable. Well now he’s hoping to follow in the footsteps of Sam Smith and step into the limelight with some solo work. And if These Are The Days is anything to go by, he’s definitely one to watch.
So there we have it, the 10th instalment of what has rapidly become my favourite part of this blog. As ever, feel free to let me know if there are any tunes you want me to include on this and don’t forget, I posted my ultimate Christmas playlist earlier this week, so go and check that out and get festive!
