This week I’m feeling pretty good about myself. We put up and decorated the Christmas tree in our flat, I managed to get all of my Christmas shopping bought and wrapped in one day, I’ve been to the Christmas markets and I’ve watched Home Alone. It really is beginning to feel a lot like Christmas.
One of the many things to love about Christmas is the number of parties going on, and what party is complete without a great soundtrack? None. A party is nothing without good music. But don’t worry, that’s what I’m here for. Just think of me as your musical Santa.
Caribou – Second Chance (Shines Re-Tune)
I’ve been listening to Caribou’s album, Our Love, quite a bit recently and recent spotted this remix from LA producer, Shines. This reworking somehow manages to keep that well known Caribou sound intact, while still putting a new spin on the track.
Atu – Vacant
You may have noticed by now that I have a bit of a thing for down-tempo, stripped back tunes, and Vacant is just that. Atu goes all Goldilocks on us, blending just the right amount of keys, strings and percussion to make this track just right.
Shy Girls – Renegade
Another slow jam for you, this time from future RnB favourite, Shy Girls. Renegade is funky and a little bit sexy, which is just what we’ve come to expect from the Portland musician. This track has hints of PartyNextDoor and The Weeknd throughout, which is definitely a good thing in my book.
Mura Masa – Day 82
Time to pick up the tempo a little, with the latest offering from 18 year old producer, Mura Masa. What is it with all these ridiculously talented teens of late? It makes me sad that people like this are hidden away, while the charts are filled with dull, boring, mass produced nonsense. Anyway, Day 82 is a major head bopper, mixing big hip hop beats with some jazzy horns. I only wish the track was a little longer!
Honne – Warm On A Cold Night
Honne released Warm On A Cold Night back in July, but seeing as the nights are getting pretty damn cold now, it seemed fitting to share it today. I’m feeling warmer already.
Now I now this is post is supposed to be Five Things You Should Be Listening To but I think I can get away with posting this next video from Kendrick Lamar, because technically it’s an advert for Reebok. I Am sees Kendrick spitting his signature flow in various spots around Compton.
So that’s it for this week, I hope you’re feeling musically fulfilled. Also, don’t forget to check out my ultimate Christmas playlist! Crank up the volume and get merry!
