Five things you should be listening to this weekend (Vol. 19)

I’ve been a bit quiet on here recently, partly due to me switching my site over to new hosting. In case you hadn’t noticed, it’s now itsmattthompson.com rather than itsmattthompson.wordpress.com. Anyway, the site is switched over now and although I’m still tinkering away trying to sort a few things out behind the scenes, I couldn’t sit around not posting, not when there is so much good music to share with you all!

Skepta – Shutdown

While he may have already made quite a name for himself in the grime world, Skepta has been thrust into the limelight this week, thanks in part to Kanye West. First, he was spotted amongst the dozens of grime MCs backing Kanye up at the Brits,¬†before teaming up with him again to put on an absolutely historic show at London’s Koko.

Action Bronson – Baby Blue (Feat. Chance the Rapper)

Another week, another new track from Action Bronson’s upcoming album, Mr Wonderful. This time he called in Chance the Rapper for a guest spot and Mark Ronson for production. It currently seems like Bronson can do no wrong, and 24th March (the album release date) can’t come soon enough, if you ask me.

Beerlover – Stereo Funk

I don’t want to jinx things, but the weather seems to be slowly improving. The nights are getting a little bit lighter, the days are getting a little bit warmer, and it finally seems like spring is on its way. Even if the weather doesn’t improve though, listening to Beerlover’s Stereo Funk will make it feel like a warm summer’s day, wherever you are.

Nosaj Thing – Cold Stare (Feat. Chance the Rapper & The O’My’s)

LA based DJ/producer, Nosaj Thing, dropped the first single from his upcoming LP this week, and it features another guest spot from Chance the Rapper. This isn’t the first time these two stars have teamed up – Nosaj Thing was also behind Paranoia from Chance the Rapper’s hit, Paranoia.

Petit Biscuit – Sunset Lover

We round off today with another tune that just oozes summer vibes. Sunset Lover comes from French producer Petit Biscuit, which I have to say is one of my all time favourite names for a musician. Kick back, relax and imagine you’re chilling on a warm beach somewhere, cocktail in hand.
