This week, Microsoft finally admitted defeat and announced that they would be killing off Internet Explorer. So, sad news for whoever actually still uses Internet Explorer, which I’m guessing is just old people and people who don’t realise that there are other browsers available. This has nothing to do with any of my musical choices for today, but I’ve never been a fan of Internet Explorer and am happy to see the back of it, so thought I’d share the good news. Anyway, here are my five things you should be listening to this weekend.
Kendrick Lamar – To Pimp A Butterfly
The hip hop world had its prayers answered earlier this week, when Kendrick Lamar’s long awaited second album, To Pimp a Butterfly, was released a week early. I’ve been listening to it over and over again all week, and still can’t pick a favourite track so thought I’d just include the whole damn thing. I know that means this post will be more than five tracks, but who cares, this is an incredible piece of music and should be enjoyed in its entirety.
Erykah Badu & IAMNOBODI – On And On
Erykah Badu gets the remix treatment this week, courtesy of IAMNOBODI, who turned his hand to her 1997 classic, On and On. This new version puts a new spin on the track, while still managing to keep the smooth, soulfulness that Erykah Badu is known for intact.
BADBADNOTGOOD – Boogie No. 69
Hot off the back off their recent collaboration with Ghostface Killah, jazz legends BADBADNOTGOOD dropped a brand new track this week. Boogie No. 69 will be the B-side to previously released 7-inch single “Velvet” and perfectly showcases the immense talents that got these guys to where they are today.
Kanye West – Through The Wire
So, if you read my earlier blog post, or have been on the internet at all this week, you’ll probably have heard that Kanye will be headlining Glastonbury, taking the highly sought after Saturday night slot on the Pyramid stage. Some people are whinging, but I’m not getting into that again. Instead, I thought I’d share a track from my favourite album of his, and one of my favourite albums of all time, College Dropout.
MNEK – More Than A Miracle
To round things off this week, we’ve got the latest track from MNEK, who is going from strength to strength lately. More Than A Miracle is 100% dancefloor ready and will no doubt be soundtracking many nights out this weekend.
