This Friday is one of the best kinds of Fridays. We’ve just been paid and have a three day weekend just waiting to be filled with all sorts of shenanigans. If the weather bucks its ideas up, then beer gardens across the nation will be fit to burst. If not, people will no doubt just drink inside instead. And don’t you worry, it’s been a great week for new music as well.
Here are my five things you should be listening to this weekend.
Tame Impala – Disciples
Tame Impala are really ramping things up in the run up to their next album, presenting us with another beautiful new track this week. During a Reddit Ask Me Anything, Tame Impala frontman, Kevin Parker, surprised fans by dropping a brand new song, out of the blue. Disciples is pretty short compared to other tracks, but no less sweet.
Jeremih – Planes (Lido, Chance the Rapper & The Social Experiment Remix)
Jermih’s hit, Planes, gets the remix treatment next, courtesy Chance the Rapper & The Social Experiment and Lido. With trademark jazzy horns throughout, and Chance the Rapper’s Willy Wonka inspired verse towards the end, this is exactly the kind of remix I can’t help but get on board with.
Alessia – Here
On first listen, Alessia’s Here may sound like your standard house party track, but on closer inspection it’s quite the opposite. Rather than singing about going out and getting turned up (that’s what the kids are doing these days, right?) she’s actually putting out an anthem for all the wallflowers out there, everyone who’s ever felt out of place and frustrated at one of these parties and would much rather avoid them.
Brayton Bowman – Baby One More Time (Refix)
Anyone who tries to say that Hit Me Baby One More Time was anything other than a straight up banger is just lying to themselves. Just admit it, you know it was a major tune. Well, Philadelphia native Brayton Bowman has brought the track into the modern day, putting his own unique spin on it – with a little encouragement from none other than MNEK.
Oscar Wildstyle & Wiggie Smalls – Thongs of Praise (Vol. 3)
Oscar Wildstyle & Wiggie Smalls have made a name for themselves in Manchester, thanks partly to the club night Juicy they DJ at, but also thanks to their array of epic mixes. Every time they release a new mix it instantly makes my week. This is the third volume in their Thongs of Praise series, and is full of non-stop RnB anthems. Oh, and it’s available to download for free as well.
