Five things you should be listening to this weekend (Vol. 33)

So this week, my hayfever finally decided to rear its ugly head, after lurking ominously in the shadows for the past month or so. It’s really cool and super fun to wake up in the morning, struggling to see because my eyes have effectively dried out over night. Luckily, Aldi hayfever tablets are less than a quid per box, so I’ve been popping those bad boys like they were Smarties. Anyway, if you’re suffering from allergies and need something to take your mind off them, I’ve got some more new music to kick start your weekend.

Here are my five things you should be listening to this weekend.

The Arcs – Stay In My Corner

Stay in My Corner is the first single from The Arcs, the new side project from Black Keys frontman Dan Auerbach. For those of you who love a good fact, because I know I do, this single was apparently written about the recent Mayweather/Pacquiao fight. Anyway, The Arcs will be releasing their debut album, Yours, Dreamily, on 4th September.

The Weeknd – Can’t Feel My Face

The Weeknd dropped a new track this week, performing it as part of the Apple Music announcement which took place in San Francisco. The Weeknd is one of a growing number of big names supporting the new Apple Music service, along with Zane Lowe and Drake. Can’t Feel My Face is definitely more upbeat and funky than some of the previous records we’ve heard from The Weeknd, moving away from the chilled out after party vibes to more of an actual party track.

Method Man – The Meth Lab (Feat. Hanz On & Streetlife)

Hip-hop is constantly changing and getting more experimental, with incredible albums like Kendrick Lamar‘s To Pimp A Butterfly pushing boundaries. Just because artists are willing to try new things, however, doesn’t mean they have to. The Meth Lab, the latest single from Method Man, doesn’t feature obscure jazz fusion or anything too unusual, instead just letting Method Man go in, and go in hard. Also, after listening to this track and watching the video, who wouldn’t want to see Method Man star in a Breaking Bad remake?

The Internet – Special Affair

Special Affair is the latest single from Odd Future affiliated group, The Internet. For those of you unfamiliar with The Internet, they couldn’t sound more different to Tyler, The Creator, Earl Sweatshirt and other big names from Odd Future – Special Affair is a sultry RnB jam with a ridiculously funky bassline. The Internet have their third studio album, Ego Death, coming out at the end of this month, with guest appearances from Kaytranada, Janelle Monae, Vic Mensa, Tyler, the Creator and more.

Statik Selektah – Beautiful Life (Feat. Action Bronson & Joey Bada$$)

Veteran producer Statik Selektah is currently gearing up for the release of his 7th studio album, Lucky 7, and recently shared Beautiful Life, one of the tracks from the upcoming record. Beautiful Life features two of New York’s finest rappers, Action Bronson & Joey Bada$$, and the rest of the album will feature equally impressive guest appearances from the likes of Talib Kweli, Ab-Soul and Big K.R.I.T.
