8 accounts you should be following on Instagram

Instagram’s great, isn’t it? I mean, where else could you go to see an endless stream of perfectly composed shots of avocado on toast and beautifully filtered sunsets? (In case you were wondering, there are currently over 280,000 photos tagged #avocadotoast on the app. That’s a lot of toast.)

But there’s so much more to Instagram than just fancy breakfasts, sunsets and selfies. If you’re looking for something to distract you, whether for 5 minutes or 5 hours, you’ll be able to find it on the app. With more than 500 million users, there’s no shortage of amazing pictures to scroll through next time you want to kill some time. But with so many accounts, it can sometimes be difficult to find the ones that are actually worth following.

So, to give you a helping hand next time you need some distraction, here are 8 of my current favourite Instagram accounts.

1) U.S. Department of the Interior: @usinterior

The U.S. Department of the Interior’s account shares images of some of the stunning landscapes and scenery that can be found across America. Perfect for trying to forget Trump’s one-man mission to take the country back to the dark ages again.

2) Homepolish: @homepolish

Whether you’re looking for some inspiration or you’re just plain nosey, we all love looking around other people’s homes. Homepolish’s feed is exactly what you’d expect from an interior design service – beautifully designed living spaces, guaranteed to make you rethink your own.

3) One Hungry Jew: @onehungryjew

I know I started this off by saying there’s more to Instagram than pictures of food, but if you’re not following at least a few food-based accounts then you’re seriously missing out. I mean, come on. How can you not enjoy looking at photos that make you this hungry?

4) Poorly Drawn Lines: @poorlydrawnlines

Recently I’ve found myself following an increasing number of illustrators and cartoonists on Instagram. Poorly Drawn Lines is a webcomic written and illustrated by Reza Farazmand and one of my personal favourites. Short, simple, often weird and always funny.

5) The Cool Hunter: @thecoolhunter_

The Cool Hunter pretty much does what it says on the tin. Rather than just covering one specific area, this account just shares whatever they think is cool. From architecture and design to travel, music and fashion.

6) Best of Packaging: @bestofpackaging

Best of Packaging is managed by Mat Pike, one of the guys behind men’s fashion, design and lifestyle blog, Buckets & Spades. The profile description says it best: “A daily dose of nice looking packaging”. Simple.

7) Airbnb: @airbnb

While there are an endless number of brands who do Instagram the wrong way, there are a few that get it just right. Airbnb is definitely one of my favourite brand accounts to follow, and looking through their feed you’ll soon see why.

8) Sssleep: @alwayssssleep

You know that feeling you get when you climb into a bed with fresh sheets, extra pillows and a duvet so soft you feel like you’re wrapped in a cloud? This is basically that feeling, but in an Instagram account.
