Five things you should be listening to this weekend (Vol. 45)

Frank Ocean Provider

It’s 1st September, which means it’s 6 days until my birthday, which is just great news for everyone. A bunch of other stuff has happened this week, but I’m not going to talk about that. So, let’s just get straight down to it. Here are five things you should be listening to this weekend.

Frank Ocean – Provider

You know how people say you wait ages for a bus, and then 10 turn up at once? I think the same theory can be applied to Frank Ocean. After hiding in the shadows for what seemed like an eternity, making us wonder if his latest album was ever going to happen, he now seems to be gracing us with new music all the time. Provider is his latest track, which he premiered on his Apple Music show, blonded RADIO. Keep ’em coming Frank.

Four Tet – SW9 9SL

Over the recent weeks, Four Tet has been sharing all sorts of music, both new and old. SW9 9SL is his latest offering, following on from his superb single, Planets. I’m hoping this busy spell means something big is in the pipeline, but who knows eh?

Miguel – Sky Walker (Feat. Travis Scott)

Sky Walker is the latest single to come from Miguel, released as he gears up to drop the follow up to 2015’s Wildheart. The video, which was directed by Director X, shows Miguel doing what he does best, wearing jazzy outfits and partying with beautiful women. It’s a hard life, eh.

Mac Demarco – This Old Dog

Mac Demarco, everyone’s favourite loveable weirdo, released a second video for This Old Dog, one of the stand out tracks from his recent album of the same name. The first video was odd enough, but this new one takes it to a whole new level. Designed for VR glasses (although you can watch it without), it looks how I imagine it would look if you fell inside a Sega Megadrive that was on the fritz.

Jorja Smith X Preditah – On My Mind

On My Mind is a little different from some of the stuff we’ve already heard from Jorja Smith, thanks in part to her teaming up with Preditah. The combination of Jorja’s soulful vocals and Preditah’s production make this a match made in heaven. And to make things better, she’s teamed up with the Kurupt FM crew from People Just Do Nothing for the video. What more could you ask for?

But wait, there’s more! Because it’s nearly my birthday and I’m feeling nice, here’s a little something extra. At last week’s VMAs, Kendrick Lamar came through to perform DNA and Humble, and it was just as fantastic as you’d expect.
